Edupaz offers programs that equip community groups with the skills and knowledge to run chicken cooperatives.
EduPaz has built an agroecology demonstration site; a flourishing example of what can be accomplished using organic and integrated agricultural practices.
Educación por la Paz (Education for Peace, or “EduPaz”) originally provided health-related services and economic development to Guatemalan refugees who had fled across the border to Chiapas during the brutal civil war. In recent years, EduPaz has expanded its work with indigenous Mayan communities in the most remote part of Chiapas to build local economies and promote community-based development.
IDEX supports EduPaz’s programs in economic development and agroecology. These programs focus on micocredit and technical assistance for 40 collectives and community groups.
Communities work on projects such as livestock-rearing, growing vegetable crops, and other income-generating activities. EduPaz has also built a renowned health center and a demonstration site for organic agriculture and horticulture in Tziscao. It is a flourishing example of what can be accomplished using organic and integrated agricultural practices.
