Asociación para la Promoción de la Salud y el Desarrollo Socio Económico (APROSADSE) works in the remote, rural communities of San Martín Jilotepéque, Chimaltenango Guatemala, with indigenous subsistence farming families.
APROSADSE engages communities in sustainable land management practices.
The founding goal of the organization was to reduce the shockingly high rates of maternal mortality in the area, where no health care services were available at the time. Currently the organization addresses the needs of farming communities through programs in economic development, health, adult education, and food security.
The financial services program provides microcredit and training to groups and individuals for sustainable organic agriculture, animal husbandry, and small business projects. All of APROSADSE’s work is designed to engage families and communities in sustainable land management practices that conserve the natural environment on which they depend. At the same time, they are addressing chronic poverty and malnutrition by assisting communities to build their capacity to successfully manage income-generating projects and ensure long-term food production.
