IDEX limits its partnerships – its funding – to poverty alleviation organizations in 6 target countries: Guatemala, India, Mexico, Nepal, South Africa and Zimbabwe.

How We Grant

When we are looking to fund new groups, we go through a series of steps:

Selection Process

  1. We research a dozen prospective organizations “on paper,” reviewing their websites, financials, etc. We also collect recommendations from current partners in the region and other international development organizations.
  2. Next we conduct site visits with 5 to 8 organizations or more and meet with the staff, board members, and the communities involved.
  3. Then we select 2 to 4 organizations to receive small grants (approximately $5,000) for projects of 6-12 months in duration as a way of exploring our relationship with them.
  4. Finally, after the small grant period is up, we invite 1 or 2 impressive grantees to become a “partner.” This entails a 3-year funding commitment on IDEX’s part with grants of $15,000 or more.

IDEX does not fund individuals. IDEX does not accept unsolicited proposals for partnership or grants. We invite new partners a few at a time in 1-2 countries at a time, every 1-2 years.
