23 more, transformed: Reflections from the 5th IDEX Academy

By Jessie Spector, Director of Donor Organizing

IDEX hosted our fifth and largest IDEX Academy last week, with 23 participants and world-class faculty hailing from Senegal and Zimbabwe to Texas and Vermont.

We learned via movement, small group discussions, art, fishbowl, and world cafe discussions, and directly from our natural surroundings. As a participant myself, it is safe to say everyone there was transformed. We will be sharing out evaluations from the Academy in the weeks to come.

Stay tuned for information about our next Academy: the first-ever IDEX Academy on the East Coast in September 2017!

We will be announcing the dates and location shortly. If you’d like to be sure to apply, contact me at: jessie (at) idex.org.

For now, here are some fresh reflections from our recent participants, to help ignite and inspire our community:

“I just had to express my boundless gratitude to you for so many things – many beyond words, in your bones – for the deep time, the vulnerability, the open-heartedness, the good humor, the creativity, the sight, the sensibility, the willingness, the discomfort, the fear, the bravery, the good structural adjustments, the dance moves, the songs, the control and lack thereof, the honesty, and the love….It was a big step in the direction of realizing my vision to deepen connection – which I believe is necessary to make any action I am a part of in this world better.”

"Thank you for... the magic of last week. Thank you IDEX faculty and staff for the way in which you thoughtfully carried us through such important work. Thank you fellow change makers for all you are and give to creating a more just world. I am left reignited, and exited for the future."

"It was an amazing journey, and I am so happy to have been on the path with you generous, wonder-full people, and feel quite changed by you all."
